The fact is the small car segment is one of rapidly growing zones in the new car market today and frankly saying there are lots of perceived reasons why people prefer to buy small fuel-efficient cars instead of large trucks. No doubt, it’s one of the ways to save some money but it has many other auto alternatives as well in these days of economic uncertainty, crowded roads and heavy urban traffic. A small vehicle is more economical in use, but it is also easier to drive and park as well as it is more affordable to buy and run.

Its navigation is now optional on the Eco trim, and come with a USB port, Bluetooth, steering wheel-mounted audio controls and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.

Volkswagen Polo hatchback
£9,995 – £16,230

Suzuki Swift hatchback
£10,660 – £13,995

Skoda Fabia hatchback

Sergio Scaglietti, a sports car designer, whos name is associated with some of the most beautiful and famous Ferraris of the past 60 years, died Sunday at age 91 at his home in Modena.

Sergio Scaglietti was born Jan. 9, 1920, in Modena, Italy. He was forced to drop out of school at 13 after his father died. To support his family, he went to work in a local garage, where he learned to repair by hand the bent and dented bodies of cars banged up in accidents.

When Sergio was 17, his older brother and another employee formed their own coachbuilding company and took young Sergio with them. They set up shop in downtown Modena across the street from Enzo Ferrari’s Scuderia Ferrari, and in a short time they were repairing the Scuderia’s cars.

In the early 1950s, a gentleman racer from Bologna commissioned Sergio to rebody his damaged Touring Barchetta. “Enzo Ferrari saw this and said ‘That is not bad,’” Scaglietti remembered. “From this, he entrusted me with a new chassis.”

In 1954, Mr. Scaglietti was commissioned by Italian movie director Roberto Rossellini to design a custom Ferrari 375 MM for his then-wife, actress Ingrid Bergman.

In the mid 1950s, Scaglietti became the Carrozzeria of choice for Ferrari’s racing efforts. Many sports racing prototypes were designed and manufactured at their facility. All those exclusively designed by Scaglietti carried the Scaglietti & C. badge while cars built to outside designs didn’t. Several of Ferrari’s most coveted models such as the 250 California, 250 GTO and 250 Tour de France were built by Scaglietti to a Pinin Farina design.

If you want to get a UK full driving licence the first step is to get a provisional licence. You can apply online if you have a UK passport, alternatively you need to get a form from your local post office. The provisional licence usually arrives within 10-14 working days.

There are two test required to get your licence. The first, a theory test is in two parts. First comes the multiple choice questions of which there are 50 in total out of the question bank of 950 questions. You need to get 43 of the questions right to achieve a pass. This is then immediately followed by the hazard awareness test. This involves a number of video clips each lasting around 25 seconds and which require a click of the mouse when the hazard appears on the screen. If you fail one part of the test but pass the other you still need to take both parts of the test again. You can book the test at the official DSA website.

When you’ve passed the theory test you can then take your practical driving test. This is taken at a practical test centre with a Driving Standards Agency examiner and last for almost 40 minutes. However, before you take the test you should get some lessons with a proper fully qualified instructor. Only someone fully trained will be able to teach you everything you need to know to pass the test. All good instructors will follow the official DSA syllabus. Less than 50 per cent of test candidates pass the test and the cost is over £60. So it’s definitely not worth taking the test until you are definitely ready for it.

After you’ve passed your driving test you are still on probation – if you get 6 points on your licence, you will go back to learner driver status and will need to retake your test. More serious offences may require you to take an extended test.

Purchasing a classic car (or an antique car) can be a good investment or it can be a money-pit. There are many factors that are involved in identifying a car that may actually generate a good return on investment. It is important to do your research to make sure that you end up with an investment, not an expense.

One of the most significant determinants in identifying a classic car that will continue to increase in value is the population of those cars in circulation; in general, the fewer the cars in circulation the greater the value. However, just because supply is low doesn’t mean a car’s value will grow. A lemon will usually remain a lemon, and taste just a sour even if the population is cut in half. While there may be some fanatics who will chase certain cars no matter how mundane, unless those cars become extremely rare, their value is destined to remained depressed.

This brings us to the “cool” factor. Ferrari is a perfect example. The company and cars have a long and storied history. Ferrari has manufactured champion race winners, they’ve produced a diverse, but limited number of street legal automobiles and their innovations have helped advance the automotive industry. However cool doesn’t have to mean expensive (though often there’s a correlation there); cool is the result of any number of factors, ranging from pure performance characteristics to iconography, such as is the case with the ’57 Chevy. The American muscle car is a great example of a class of affordable automobile that earns high marks from a cool perspective. The mitigating factor with American muscle cars is their relative abundance compared to other more valuable (rare) classic cars. Within this class though, there are some models that were manufactured on a much more limited basis than others.

Another major determinant in the value of a classic car is its originality. Not in the sense of the word that it stands apart from others, but rather what percentage of the actual car is original to its manufacturing. Does it have the original engine or a rebuilt convert from a similar car? The higher the percentage of original parts and the closer the car is to its original design usually support an appreciating value. Owners generally need to balance this with maintaining the car’s functionality and general appearance. A 40-year-old paint job may be original, but the flaking, chipping and cracking may not find favor with a potential buyer. If refurbishment is called for, maintaining the original look, feel or design usually maximizes the car’s value. Look for a car that has been refurbished using materials that are as close to the original manufactured specifications as possible.

Having purchased a car as an investment, it’s obviously important to take great care of it. Be sure to research cleaning products, use the appropriate fuel and keep it well maintained (yourself if you are capable or by a qualified mechanic). Keep it adequately insured (making sure not to underestimate the value); low cost car insurance can be easily found online these days. Lastly, it’s up to you, but take it for a spin now and again. Not all dividends are financial…

Motorcycles, mopeds, ATVs, scooters, have become very popular around the world but a scooter have become number one both in big cityes and small towns as a perfect sort of mobility aid. It’s fun, economical, and convenient in heavy traffic or on the freeway with cars and motorcycles.

There are many tipes of scooters and different options there. Scooter today is a legitimate vehicle for 2-wheel travel as any motorcyle on the road though it were gas motor scooters or electric motor scooter models.

First of all you have to decide for yourself what are you going to use your scooter for. If you purchase a little 50cc motor scooter, then you’re only going to be able to get it up to about 40 miles per hour. But in case you need your scooter for commuting on highways, then no doubt it is not a reliable option for you.

Going to buy scotter you should pay attention to such important things as trusted brands and Scooter Company avoiding used and second-hand scooters. It may be Vespa, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Vectrix brands or Maxi-Scooter VECTRIX, The Go-Ped ESR 750 , The Motorino XPi, The Forsen Hummer or others. You have to check out as mach as possible online reviews reading riders’ personal testimonials of their experiences then make your decision which models are most reliable and most suited for you. Ask online or your local motor scooter dealer for professional reviews of certain scooter models. Compare scoter’s prices and insurance quotes.

All these preliminary steps you can make online, it’s easy to find and manage. Then after careful planning, assessment and exploring you can finally buy the best scooter you’ve ever dreamt about.

Have you ever noticed how the best family cars also seem to be the best cared for?

This is because discerning owners are also more likely to take care of their cars, getting them regularly serviced and going the extra mile in keeping them truly clean.

In other words, if they’re smart enough to have done their research thoroughly in selecting the right car in the first place, they’re also likely to be the type of person to look after the car properly.

In some ways, it’s a question of intelligence.

It may be stretching the point too far to suggest a direct correlation between the shiniest cars on the street with the freshest oil and the owners’ IQ levels, but there is some truth in this.

After all, it makes economic sense to look after your car properly – keeping it well serviced, keeping the bodywork clean and rust-free, and the interior clean and fresh.

Besides allowing you to feel good as you cruise along, it helps the car to drive better, and preserves its value. You’re also likely to be steadier and, therefore, safer driver as you clearly care about the car you’re in; the two things generally go together.

This is particularly true for family cars. Kids are even more expensive to run than cars – so look out for a family car that is well looked after, and you can be pretty sure the family in that car will have its feet metaphorically planted firmly on the ground.

The parents, in particular, are far more likely to be the kind of people who know what’s really important in life; safety, spending money on the right things for their children, and looking after their environment.
